Poetry |
 |
|
Here are two encouraging poems from Aberdeen member, Violet Buchan. A much loved senior member of the UK's most northerly Adventist church, Violet loves her poetry and shares these from her life experience as a way to 'Follow the Bible'.
THE NEGLECTED BIBLE
Take down your Bible from that dusty shelf
Is it in your life now – part of yourself?
Or does it sit neglected – left to age?
Does no eager eye look upon its yellowed page?
A flower that brings a memory is pressed inside
A lock of hair with a ribbon tied
A four leaved clover – its faded leaves lie flat
A letter with writing pale, tells of this and that
But no longer is it searched for gems within
No longer an influence to guide away from sin
His promise of redemption is no longer read
Prayers and petitions – silent – no longer said
Let me see your Bible – how does it look?
It could once again make you people of the Book
Can it yet be used to help you make the grade
It doesn’t need to be rewritten – just re-read.
THE BIBLE USED
The Bible gives perspective to our hurts and fears
It revives our failing spirits – lifts and cheers
Teaches us from all our frantic, ritualistic works to cease
To trust the sacrifice accomplished and live in peace
The Bible soothes away so very many ills
Removes and shrinks our mountains to molehills
Into a weary, longing soul this faith instills
Nourishing the growing seed our Saviour then fulfils
The Bible reveals God’s plans for doing good
His enduring promises offering Spiritual food
He reaches out across sin’s great divide
And lets us know He is ever on our side
The Bible tells of a God so eager to forgive
His salvation plan in place so we can live
Made with a Saviour who freely gave his blood
No trickle for a few – but for ALL a cleansing flood
