GOD THE SON Jesus Christ is the second person of the Godhead. This does not mean however, that He is in any way inferior to God the Father or God the Holy Spirit. He is God in the full and unqualified meaning of the expression, as we shall see from the following texts. Jesus was also fully man, but we will look at this aspect of His nature in another study. A. His Pre-existence Jesus existence did not start when He was born in Bethlehem, He had existed long before then: John 17:5 "And now Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." Micah 5:2 " ... whose origins are from old, from ancient times." John 1:1,2 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." John 1:14 "The word became flesh and lived for a while among us" B. His Attributes 1. Omnipresence Matthew 18:20 2. Omnipotence Matthew 28:18 3. Omniscience Colossians 2:2,3 4. Eternity Matthew 28:20 5. Immutability Hebrews 13:8 C. His Names 1. Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) 2. Jesus. (Matthew 1:21 etc.) Note that Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means "the Lord saves". 3. Immanuel. (Matthew 1:23) Immanuel means "God with us". 4. Son of God. (Luke 1:35 and John 5:25 etc.) 5. Christ. (Luke 2:11) Christ is the Greek form of the Hebrew word Messiah. Both words mean "the Anointed One". 6. The Word. (John 1:1) 7. Lord. (John 20:28 and Acts 4:33 etc.) 8. God. (Hebrews 1:8) D. His Divine Works Creation - Colossians 1:16 Forgiving Sins - Mark 2:5 Upholding and Preserving all things - Colossians 1:17 Giving Life - John 6:33 E. His Acceptance of Worship Jesus Himself said that it is only right to give worship to God. (See Matthew 4:9,10) But He accepted it when other people worshipped Him:- Matthew 14:33 Those who were in the boat worshipped Him. Matthew 15:25 The women came and knelt before Him. Luke 24:52 They (the disciples) worshipped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. John 20:28 Thomas said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Phil. 2:10 At the name of Jesus every knee should bow.
